Product Regulations and Labeling Requirements for Headphones

内容目录

Importing headphones or earphones without understanding regulations can lead to serious consequences. Non-compliant products may be seized, destroyed, or banned from sale.

Regulations vary depending on whether the product is wireless or wired.

Wireless Earphones and Headphones

Wireless audio products must comply with radio communication regulations.

  • United States: FCC Part 15
  • European Union: Radio Equipment Directive (RED)

These regulations control frequency usage, transmission power, and electromagnetic compatibility.

Wired Earphones and Headphones

Even wired products are regulated.

  • EU: RoHS compliance is mandatory, limiting heavy metals
  • USA: FCC Part 15 may still apply, along with California Proposition 65

RoHS applies to both wired and wireless electronics.

Labeling Requirements

Labeling is often overlooked but legally critical.

  • EU: CE marking and WEEE symbol are mandatory
  • USA: Country of origin labeling is required, such as “Made in China”

Most Chinese factories are not experts in foreign labeling laws. It is always the importer’s responsibility to ensure correct labeling on both the product and packaging.

Selling incorrectly labeled products is illegal—even if the factory made the mistake.
